Foraging Experiences

If you enjoy exploring the British countryside, have you considered foraging?

If you enjoy learning a bit about your surroundings and what’s in front of you, and if you love eating and drinking the freshest ingredients, then foraging is probably right up your street.

There are so many different types of foraging that you can choose from that I would be amazed if we can’t find you something that will appeal.

Foraging is very close to our heart because the Humphreys of Henley promise, that drives all that we do, stresses our passion about prolonging, protecting and preserving the best of the British countryside and the people that make it so special.

As we’ve said, there’s so much to choose from, so we can almost guarantee there will be a foraging experience to your interests and passions.

  • Is it sweet or savoury – maybe blackberries or truffles
  • Is it food or drink – maybe game or a festive sloe gin at the end of the year?
  • Getting to know the nature around you and how it can benefit your health
  • Learning the seasonal variations of fresh forage available in the British countryside

Whatever it is, we will really help you to enjoy it. Now obviously foraging is driven very much by the seasons, and autumn is certainly the favoured time for many people to get out there. But it really doesn’t matter what month of the year you are coming over to the UK or planning to spend a little bit of time in the British countryside, there really is something throughout the year. There are nettles and dandelions in February and March that can be used for all sorts of wonderful food and drink, through to the mushrooms and the plethora of nuts and berries and all of those fabulous options.

One of our real favourites in the lovely countryside, is heading out and finding all the wild garlic that starts appearing in February, is probably at its best in March, and then all the fabulous flowers start appearing in April.

Obviously it’s very important to be with the right expert so you can make the most of your time. We love our expert partners because they’re not only passionate about finding those treasured mushrooms, and the best elderflower or blackberries, they’re equally passionate about what to do with them.

And that is one of the wonders of foraging because you’ve done the activity, you’ve been up close and personal with the countryside, and then you can decide whether to enjoy the food or drink option?

  • Are you going to work with a chef and create a fabulous, delicious dinner and sit down and enjoy the fruits of all of your work?
  • Or maybe you would prefer to work with a mixologist and create your signature cocktail? Choose your favourite ingredients, design the perfect recipe, create a name, and it is yours to keep forever.

So I hope you see why we love foraging so much. It’s fun, it’s edifying and it’s the perfect excuse to spend lots of time outdoors. And then you have the wonderful choice of what to do with all that you find.

There are so many different options, whether you are near the coast, or you’re in the heart of the Chilterns or the Cotswolds, or in the depths of Dorset or the New Forest.

And as always, the Humphreys team knows exactly where to look as we have a perfect foraging experience. We have various different foraging experiences that we can tailor to you and your interests. You just have to give us a call and we’ll create the perfect foraging experience for you.
