Croeso i Gymru – Welcome to Wales!
We had a wonderful long weekend in Aberystwyth, a beautiful coastal town on the west coast of Wales, and we wholeheartedly recommend a visit.
If you love magical walks, historic castles and a traditional pretty coastline, you’ll love Aberystwyth. Oliver Cromwell may have ordered the destruction of the castle as a punishment for them taking the side of the royalists, but all they did was create some beautiful remains which now stand tall and proud next to the striking war memorial.
The Wellington Monument is also worth the climb – not only to see the worthy reminder of the bravery of the Welsh Fusiliers, but also to do a full 360 degree turn to take in the magnificent views.
Within the town there are some lovely cafes and restaurants and I can personally attest to the restorative powers of the delicious local ice cream. And in addition to some lovely coastal B&B’s, we wholly recommend a stay at Nanteos, a welcoming hotel housed in an authentic and relaxing Georgian mansion, just a few miles from the heart of Aberystwyth.
