Throughout her life, Queen Elizabeth has loved horses. She is an avid equestrian and has bred, ridden and owned horses for many years.
The Queen started to learn to ride when she was just three years old, and her first horse was a Shetland pony named Peggy which was a gift from her beloved grandfather, King George V on her 4th birthday. She is a hugely accomplished horsewoman and she may be in her mid 90’s, but she still loves her time on horseback.
Her passion doesn’t stop there, her management of the Royal Stud on the Sandringham Estate has produced numerous champions.
Don’t just take our word for it, Her Majesty’s love of horse racing is clear from her enthusiasm and excitement watching the racing at Royal Ascot and The Derby every year.Enquire about Experience
Since the 19th century the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace has been home to the royal collection of coaches and carriages, playing an important role in state and ceremonial occasions, such as The Queen’s Coronation, royal weddings and Trooping the Colour. It is one of the finest working stables in existence, home to over 30 Windsor Greys and Cleveland Bays — the horses that pull the royal carriages.
Although no one outside of the royal family has access to these stables, we have the next best! Windsor Great Park is one of the most stunning areas of parkland with ancient oak forests and wide-open deer parks, under the distant gaze of the beautiful English castle. Enjoy spectacular views of Windsor Castle, The Long Walk, and The Copper Horse and learn more about Her Majesty The Queen's childhood home at Windsor.
Each beautiful horse and carriage ride is tailored to your interests in the park and Windsor history and is suitable for all ages. Children as young as three will be kept engaged and those under three tend to fall asleep to the rhythm of the carriage.
You can choose from a magical 6 mile journey down the Royal Procession, following in the footsteps of our royal family, most recently during the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. Or choose to travel a little further and spend two hours immersing yourself in the estate and park life, both past and present.

Queen Elizabeth is not the only member of the family who has an avid interest in horses. Polo has been a real favourite for the family through the generations.
Prince Charles followed in his father's footsteps and was often a member of the team receiving prizes from his mother. And Princes William and Harry continued the tradition and have achieved notable success in their own right.
Just like Her Majesty, Ebe Sievwright discovered his love of horses at a very early age – he started riding when he was just 6 and started playing polo when he turned 14 years old.
In addition to playing and winning at the very highest level, Argentinian champion, Ebe has coached and trained the best players in the world, including the Queen’s grandsons.
Ebe will be the perfect host:
The Queen's love of horse racing is very well known. Royal Ascot and The Derby are said to be The Queen's favourite events of the year, particularly when she is cheering for horses from her Sandringham stables.
In October 2021 she received a special honour, recognizing her support for British flat racing (horse racing around a track) as she was inducted into the QIPCO British Champions Series Hall of Fame.
Royal Ascot and The Derby both take place in June and are at the heart of The English Season, and are joined by thrilling horse racing events at Goodwood, Newmarket and Cheltenham.
