The River Cruising Collection

Great Britain is a seafaring nation and, like her ancestors, Queen Elizabeth II loves spending time on the water.

When the Royal Yacht Britannia was in service The Queen and her family travelled widely for both royal tours and for pleasure in the early days, and recent jubilees The Queen has frequently travelled by boat, her love of the water is clear.

Gloriana, the Royal Row Barge, was commissioned to lead the royal pageant celebrating The Queen’s diamond jubilee and we saw the extraordinary procession of boats cruising through central London.

We are offering your clients the opportunity to follow in Her Majesty’s footsteps, albeit watery ones, and cruise on the River Thames in luxury launches in which she has travelled.

They will be hosted by those who have served The Queen and taken the helm when she has been on board.

The Royal barge was named by Her Majesty The Queen as a lasting legacy to mark her Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Gloriana is the first royal barge built for over 250 years. Her design and build used structures and techniques that have changed little since the long-boats of the Viking age, and carries on a centuries-old tradition of Royal barges on the Thames.

Her immediate realm is the River Thames and London, but Gloriana also celebrates the Commonwealth, which delivers a truly international dimension to her presence. The crests of 16 Commonwealth countries adorn the outside of the coach.

Gloriana is an inspiration for national pride, a showcase for traditional British boat-building and craftsmanship, and a means of encouraging people, especially young people, to engage with the River Thames and the sport of rowing.

Spend a day on the River Thames, sit back and relax like The Queen would when travelling by water. Built in 1883, Alaska is the oldest working passenger steamer on the Thames. She is part of the National Historic Fleet alongside the HMS Victory, the Cutty Sark and others.

In 2009 Alaska was chosen to act as the royal barge, taking Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh along the Thames to witness the ancient ceremony of swan upping. In June 2012 Alaska too The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh from Hambleden lock to the Henley Business School to attend a diamond jubilee garden party.

Alaska was also one of the 1,000 participants in The Queen's Diamond Jubilee pageant in London.

Operated at the highest standards and is licenced as a Class V passenger vessel by the Maritime + Coastguard Agency of the department transport. We can guarantee you will have the most experienced skipper. The managing director and senior skipper is a former merchant Navy officer and has over half a million miles logged.

Alaska is the perfect venue for you, your friends and your family to celebrate Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee. We are able to cater for drinks, canapes, a luxury gourmet picnic or buffet, whatever you would like.
