Open Water Swimming

Open-water swimming has really taken off over the last few years. Sport England said that in 2019 over four million people took the plunge into rivers and lakes across the country.

Open-water swimming has taken place in Henley since around the 1890s and since hosts four events throughout the summer months.

Alternatively, if you are new to open-water swimming and would like to take to the waters with a trusted guide, there are areas of the river where you can avoid both rowers and boats alike.

26th June 2022: Selkie Henley Classic
The Selkie Henley Classic is a 2.1-km endurance upstream River Thames swimming event, held at sunrise over the Henley Royal Regatta course.

10th July 2022: Henley Swim Festival
A weekend for all the family! Hosting a variety of multiple-distance courses, taster sessions and chances to swim with elite-level competitors. In addition to the swimming events, the festival village hosts live music, yoga and spectator entertainment.

Dates yet to be confirmed 2022: Club to Pub
The Club to Pub is a summer 1.5-km evening swim taking place in the heart of Henley finishing with a BBQ and drinks at the historic Angel on the Bridge.

The Thames Marathon, the longest of all events is a 14-km long-distance swimming marathon from Henley on Thames to Marlow
