The British Grand Prix is a motor race event and is the oldest race in the Formula 1 calendar; it is organised in the United Kingdom by the Royal Automobile Club and was first held in 1926.
It was round one of the inaugural world championship in 1950 when George VI and Queen Elizabeth attended at Silverstone. Since 1948, it has been held annually, and since 1950 it has been a round of the FIA Formula One World Championships. From 1952, the British Grand Prix has been held at the Silverstone Circuit near the Village of Silverstone in Northamptonshire.
